Vail really wants control of Colorado tourism? E-mail
Written by Madman

As you may have read, Vail pulled there investment with Colorado Ski Country USA, a local trade organization that represents the 22 resorts in Colorado.  And why you ask, Vail wants the Colorado toursim office to be it's primary marketing vehicle.  Hence, Rob Katz CEO of Vail Resorts is flexing his muscles to push their own initatives and have a Vail exec. to chair this project.  Come on Rob, isn't your brilliant marketing team capable of doing thier tasks.  Then in steps Rob Perlman, former President of Colorado Ski Country USA and now marketing and sales executive for Steamboat Resorts asking the trade group members to comment on the proposal....  So, Who's in Who's pocket??????

And come on Rob, I'm sure you can afford a schick razor?

Til next time..

Tell ya Mad, I think we've seen this movie before. You get a publicly traded "ski" corp, like say ASC....

they spend a lot on improvements that only a very select clientele can support, reducing their profit down to the 7-8% range, which is borderline especially in a weather dependent industry,

they cannibalize their neighbors for market share, losing their local loyal base in the process, The NE was sick of Ottten and ASC as well,

they bank on the rich destination visitor, but in the end, all the locals really drive the ship,

and their negative feelings (like for ASC) make more hay than any ad campaign can battle.

Once it starts to slide, everyone jumps on, because no one likes the massive money-first corporation, they always side with the little guy.

I hope VRI doesn't go that way, but their press has not been positive lately, and if they do, a lot of good people at the hills are going to get the shaft.

Go Cardinals!
